Acai Berry – FOTW #1

This week’s food of the week is… Acai berry! Not only are acai berries extremely tasty (acai bowls are gaining popularity everywhere), they also acquire many health benefits.

  1. Lowers cholesterol levels

Since acai berries are high in anthocyanins, which is a type of plant antioxidant (a molecule that prevents the development of harmful free radicals in the body), acai berries are able to lower cholesterol levels in your blood stream. Also, acai berries have plenty of plant sterols, meaning that acai berries prevent blood clots and relax blood vessels. Basically, acai berries are great for overall cardio health.

Nowadays, many skin care products are using acai oil, also because of high amount of antioxidants that acai has. So, if you consume acai berries on the regular your skin will develop a healthy glow!

  1. Boosts your immune system

Acai berries have an abundance of Vitamin C, which is a very well-known immune booster, and also are high in ellagic acid. Studies have proved that this combination have the ability to subdue cancer growth.

  1. Anti-aging

Again, due to the antioxidants that acai berries contain, they are able to delay the aging process, since the antioxidants prevent the free radicals that cause the breakdown of teeth, hair, eye and skin health. Acai is found to be able to prevent hair loss and wrinkles.

Acai is proven to have a strong effect on the body’s digestive system. Consumption of acai berries help cleanse the digestive system and remove perilous toxins in your body. Also, the high levels of natural fiber helps with the digestion of nutrients from food.
